‘Bout time for an update I suppose.
I went to the local range and took my Texas CHL qualification. Both the classroom portion and the shooting qualification are pretty simple, so I passed them with flying colors. It’s pretty much the rules that I’ve been treating guns and people with my whole life:
- Treat all firearms as if they were loaded (because until you clear said firearm, they are)
- Don’t point the firearm at anything you’re not prepared to destroy
- Don’t shoot anything unless you’re going to eat it or it’s going to cause you grave bodily harm or death
Dallas is getting nutty, so I figured it was about time to get legal. Another good thing is that having a CHL in Texas makes you legal to carry almost anywhere. Pretty much every state that has a CHL honors the ones from Texas. Here’s the list.
I picked up a Springfield Armory XD-45. I don’t like it as much as the 1911. It’s very Glock’ish in design, but it shoots really well, and is a 13+1 with a full size magazine (10 + 1 with the compact mag). One thing I don’t like about it is that the recoil spring is *very* heavy. It makes it kinda difficult to rack the slide one handed, but does control recoil very well. I can put 5 rounds into the ‘X’ ring in under 2 seconds. I’m feeding it 230 grain Federal Hydra-Shok. The local police departments down here are using that ammo, and it has incredible stopping power without having to worry about it going through it’s intended target (which is *NOT* good). Here’s a pic:

It’s sad that a person has to carry a weapon to walk down the street, but I’d rather carry it my whole life and not need it than need it once and not have it.
Anyway … What else …
I picked up a 4 bolt rear end for the Talon as well as a 2g MAF and intake pipe. I’ll probably take it up to Brian to have him do the poly bushings in the rear of the car at the end of the month. After that I just have to swap in the 2.4L and my race transmission and it should be a real blast to drive. Then it needs paint though :-/
My daughter has been visiting for the last couple of weeks. We haven’t been able to do as much with her this summer as we did last summer, but we still got to hang out and do some stuff. She’s at the age where she doesn’t want to do much with her boring old Dad, but her and Brittany have fun shopping and stuff.
I suppose that’s enough for now.
